Psalm
78:1-4 Oh
my people, hear my teaching; listen
to the words of my mouth, I
will open my mouth in parables, I
will utter hidden things, things from of old- what
we have heard and known, what
our fathers have told us. We
will not hide them from their children; we
will tell the next generation the
praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his
power, and the wonders he has done. Hebrews
11:1, 6 Now
faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not
see… and without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone
how comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who
earnestly seek him. Psalm
8:1 – 4 O
Lord, our Lord, How majestic is your name in all the earth! You
have set your glory above the heavens From
the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because
of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When
I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place, what
is man that you are mindful of him, the
son of man that you care for him? Psalm
8:5 – 9 You
made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and
crowned him with glory and honor. You
made him ruler over the works of your hands; You
put everything under his feet: all
flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and
the fish of the sea, all the swim the paths of the seas. O
Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Proverbs
1:7 The
fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But
fools despise wisdom and discipline. Amos
5:14, 24 Seek
good, not evil, that you may live. Then
the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is… But
let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing
stream! Isaiah
53:1 – 4 Who
has believed our message and
to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? He
grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground, He
had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him.
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar
with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces he
was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely
he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, Yet
we considered him stricken by God, smitten
by him, and afflicted. Isaiah
53:5 – 7 But
he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; The
punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and
by his wounds we are healed. We
all, like sheep, have gone astray, Each
of us has turned to his own way; and
the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He
was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; He
was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and
as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so
he did not open his mouth. Names

1:1 – 9
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God. He was with God
in the beginning.
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that
has been made. In him was
life, and that life was the light of men.
The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not
understood it.
There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John.
He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that
through him all men might believe. He
himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the
world. John
1:10 – 14
He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the
world did not recognize him. He
came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he
gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural
descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came
from the Father, full of grace and truth. Matthew
5:1 – 7
Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on the mountainside and sat
down. His disciples came to
him, and he began to teach them, saying: “Blessed
are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed
are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed
are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed
are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for
they will be filled. Blessed
are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” Matthew
5:8 - 12 “Blessed are the
pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the
peacemakers for they will be called the sons of God. Blessed are those who
are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. Blessed are you when
people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against
you because of me. Rejoice and
be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they
persecuted the prophets before you.” John
3:16 – 21
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For
God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save
the world through him. Whoever
believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands
condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one
and only Son. This is the
verdict: Light has come into
the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds
were evil. Everyone who does
evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his
deeds will be exposed. But
whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen
plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” I
Corinthians 11:23 – 26
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord
Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given
thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do
this in remembrance of me.” In
the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new
covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of
me.” For whenever you eat
this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he
comes. I
Corinthians 15: 20 – 22
But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of
those who have fallen asleep. For
since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes through
a man. For as in Adam all die,
so in Christ all will be made alive. Matthew
28:18 – 20
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on
earth has been given to me. Therefore
go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you. And
surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.” Acts
2: 1 – 4
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one
place. Suddenly a sound like
the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house
where they were sitting. They
saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on
each of them. All of them were
filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the
Spirit enabled them. Apostles’
Creed I believe in God, the
Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus
Christ, his only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and
born of the virgin Mary. He
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he
descended to hell. The third
day he rose again from the dead. He
ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father
almighty. From there he will
come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy
Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of the saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life
everlasting. Amen. Ephesians
6:13 – 17 Therefore put on the
full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to
stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,
with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted
with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which
you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is
the word of God. I
Corinthians 13:1 - 7
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,
I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries, and
all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not
love, I am nothing. If I give
all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have
not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. Love does not delight
in evil but rejoices with the truth. It
always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. I
Corinthians 13:8 – 13
Love never fails. But
where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they
will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection
comes, the imperfect disappears. When
I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned
like a child. When I became a
man, I put childish ways behind me. Now
we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to
face. Now I know in part; then
I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith,
hope and love. But the
greatest of these is love.
