Classroom Mission Statement Our
mission is to recognize each students' part in our classroom
community. We also recognize that God has given each of us
different gifts. Romans 12:6 says, "We have different gifts,
according to the grace given us." My mission as the classroom
teacher is to honor God above all and encourage my students to honor God
with the talents He has given us.
Faith
and Learning Statement
Math:
We learn how Awesome and Amazing our
God is when we see and learn the various patterns found in numbers and
shapes. We also see how God is allowing our minds grow as we move
into multiplication and division problems.
Social
Studies: God gives each of us gifts, and these gifts help us do our
parts in various communities. It may be our classroom community, our
church community, or our community at home. We learn the importance
of our roles in each community.
Science:
We learn about God's order and design in the world. We learn how
God created habitats for each of the creatures He created. We learn
ways in which we can help preserve the world God gave us to live in.
Classroom
Policies and Procedures
Bathroom
Procedure:
Students will be reminded and encouraged to use the restroom before
school and during recess.
If students need to use the restroom during class time, they will
need to take the bathroom pass and place it on their desk before leaving
the room.
This way only one student will be out of the room at a time.
In an emergency or if students feel ill, they may leave the room
immediately.
Friday
Folders: Your
child will be given a Friday Folder which will be sent home every Friday.
This will contain a weekly newsletter from Mrs. Schebor and Mrs. De
Jonge, any important papers from school, graded papers from previous
assignments, and any homework that needs to be done by the next Friday.
We give you this week of time so that you can decide what night
will be best to work on the homework.
Also, inside the Friday Folder you find a sheet that you, as the
parent, need to date and sign.
I would recommend just leaving the paper in the folder and sending
the folder and the sheet back to school at the same time.
Homework:
Mrs. Schebor and Mrs. De Jonge will try to keep the homework load
relatively light so that the students can enjoy family time in the
evenings and on weekends.
On a normal week, students can expect to have one short math
assignment, and will be expected to spend time studying at home (in
addition to the time spent in class) for Bible Memory, weekly Spelling and
D.O.L. tests, and periodic tests in other subjects.
Progress
of your child:
I know parents want to know how their child is doing in each
subject.
In Science, Social Studies, and Handwriting, papers brought home
will note the progress.
Our Math Curriculum, however, provides Math Journals for the
students, which the students work in each day.
Because the practice sheets are in a bound journal, your child’s
work stays in their desk, instead of coming home to you.
Grades:
This is the first year that your child will be receiving letter
grades for their progress in each class.
I am very understanding of the influence this has on a child’s
self-esteem and the anxiety caused by the grades.
Please talk with your child about letter grades and how his/her
worth, and your love for him/her, is not based on the grades they receive.
Review
Sheets: I
will be sure to hand out a review sheet before each graded test we take in
all subjects.
The purpose of these review sheets will be to review information,
to study off of, and to ease anxiety about the upcoming test.
The graded test may not have the exact same questions word-for-word
as the review sheet, but it will similar in format and content.
Book-It:
We will be taking part in the Book-It program in 3rd
grade.
If your child reads for 15 minutes a day, (s)he will receive a
certificate for a personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut.
This is tallied at the end of each month, and a new certificate is
possible each month.
There is a prize at the end of the school year for those who earn a
certificate every month.
Microwave:
Our classroom offers a microwave to any and all who would like to
use it.
If your child is planning on using the microwave throughout the
school year, please send some paper plates or napkins with your child
sometime during the first few weeks of school.
